On 11 September, the EUCanScreen pilot study on gastric cancer risk reduction during colorectal cancer screening was presented at the European Union’s project “Towards Gastric Cancer Screening” (TOGAS) Conference, held at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome.
The External Advisory Board involves prominent researchers from all over the World, including – Yi-Chia Lee, a world-renowned pioneer in similar screening studies and leading gastric cancer prevention physician at National Taiwan University Hospital.
Prof. Lee has spent over 20 years leading a successful gastric cancer prevention programme on Matsu Island, once known for the highest stomach cancer rates in Taiwan. Building on this success, the approach has been gradually expanded and is now set to become a nationwide policy in Taiwan.
During the conference, Prof. Lee gave an in-depth analysis of the proposed EU protocol, comparing it with the research he is leading in Taiwan. His insights helped position the EUCanScreen initiative within the broader international context of evidence-based cancer prevention strategies.
