The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) observes Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025 by showcasing the latest global evidence and renewing its call for equitable access to early diagnosis and treatment. The Agency presents data from its African Breast Cancer–Disparities in Outcomes (ABC-DO) cohort, demonstrating that survival rates in sub-Saharan Africa remain critically low, with only one in three women surviving seven years after diagnosis. Younger women and those recently postpartum are identified as having particularly poor outcomes. IARC warns that global incidence could reach 3.2 million new cases annually by 2050, leading to 1.1 million deaths if prevention and care are not strengthened. Within this campaign, IARC reinforces its commitment to the WHO Global Breast Cancer Initiative and highlights projects such as the Ultra3-CBE pilot in Indonesia. The communication emphasizes that awareness, research, and access to screening must work together to achieve early detection and improved survival. This awareness month also forms part of IARC’s 60th anniversary celebrations, recognizing six decades of leadership in cancer prevention and research.
