Successful completion of the EUCanScreen Task 7.1 (WP7) survey

Successful completion of the EUCanScreen Task 7.1 (WP7) survey

In the context of WP7 of the EUCanScreen JA, Task 7.1 aims to identify the level of implementation of quality assurance (QA) management systems in EU cancer screening programmes and provide guidance for implementing patient-reported outcome/experience measures (PROMs/PREMs) as a quality indicator. This Task is led by the University of Cyprus (UCY) and co-led by the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO).

As part of this effort, a stakeholder survey that addressed quality assurance and PROMs/PREMs implementation in breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screening programmes was launched in May 2025 and closed in the beginning of November 2025.

Thirty countries have been invited to participate in the survey, with responses received from 26 countries (86.7%). Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Portugal provided data at the regional level, while all other countries (84.6%) provided data at the national level. Data have been received for 42 breast, 41 cervical, and 42 colorectal cancer screening programmes.

This marks an important step towards determining the extent of quality assurance and PROMs/PREMs implementation in existing cancer screening programmes; It not only provides a solid foundation for the next phase of data analysis, but it will inform the subsequent stakeholder interviews to further identify the necessary resources for QA system and PROMs/PREMs implementation in established cancer screening programmes. Updates on the progress of Task 7.1 will be shared in future newsletters and on the project website.

UCY and ICO would like to warmly thank all partners involved for their valuable contributions. We further invite partners to continue to support the successful completion of the task by participating in the stakeholder interviews when invited.

Dr Anneza Yiallourou (UCY) on behalf of UCY and ICO
