Cancer remains one of the leading causes of disease burden in Europe. Yet, a significant proportion of cancers can be prevented or detected at an early stage, when treatment is more effective and survival outcomes improve.
On World Cancer Day, EUCanScreen highlights the critical role of high-quality, organised cancer screening programmes in reducing cancer mortality and promoting equity across Europe.
EUCanScreen supports the sustainable implementation of screening programmes for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer, while also facilitating the implementation of recently recommended screening programmes for lung, prostate and stomach cancer, based on scientific evidence and population needs.
By strengthening quality assurance, promoting evidence-based approaches and supporting collaboration across Member States, EUCanScreen works to ensure that early detection and cancer prevention are accessible to all — regardless of geography or socioeconomic status.
Through coordinated action, shared knowledge and strong partnerships, EUCanScreen contributes to reducing the cancer burden and advancing equity in cancer prevention and early detection across Europe.
