Cancer Screening Implementation

The EUCanScreen project successfully convened its consortium meeting on 11-12 March 2026, bringing together partners and stakeholders both in person in Bled, Slovenia, and online. The two-day event provided a vital forum for reviewing project progress, sharing valuable insights, and strategizing for the future of cancer screening implementation across Europe.

Day 1 | Wednesday, 11 March 2026

Focus: Welcome, Good Practices, and Project Tools

The first day commenced with a warm welcome from our Slovenian hosts and a special greeting from the Ministry of Health of Slovenia. The afternoon session featured:

  • Good Practices in Screening: Presentations on Slovenia’s high screening coverage and the Dutch experience with lung cancer screening.

  • Project Progress: Updates on capacity-building activities (WP11) and the consolidated EU Barrier Assessment Tool (T4.3).

  • Innovative Tools: Introductions to the project’s data platform, the WHO Academy learning platform, and the new MAS-AI Tool (T4.4).

  • Networking: A productive coffee break and a working dinner allowed for valuable connections among participants.

Day 2 | Thursday, 12 March 2026

Focus: Work Package Updates, Sustainability, and Future Steps

The second day provided a comprehensive overview of the project’s scientific and operational progress:

  • Work Package Updates: Detailed presentations from Work Package leaders (WP2 through WP10), covering the latest developments and findings.

  • Sustainability and Outreach: A session on planning sustainability workshops, an update on the Stakeholder Network, and the status of surveys and data collection.

  • Special Session: An in-depth discussion on the “Implementation of Decision Aids in cancer screening programmes.”

  • Planning: A meeting of the Scientific Committee to guide the project’s next phases.

  • Closing: A group photo, lunch, and final wrap-up preceded the concluding working dinner.


Key Sessions & Topics

Over the two days, the consortium delved into critical topics, including:

  • Capacity Building: Updates on training activities and programs.

  • Data & Tools: Presentations on the data platform, barrier assessment tool, and the MAS-AI tool.

  • Implementation Science: Discussions on decision aids and real-world screening program implementation.

  • Project Management: Financial reporting, publication status, and summaries of upcoming events.
