IARC announces updated European recommendations on cervical cancer screening at EUROGIN 2026. The recommendations introduce tailored strategies for vaccinated populations.

 

Vaccination

For cohorts with high vaccination coverage, screening intervals can be extended to ten years after a negative HPV test. For populations with lower coverage, standard approaches remain in place. The guidance is informed by modelling of multiple screening strategies. These updates represent a shift toward risk-based screening approaches.
