Recruitment Strategies for Lung Cancer Screening: An Umbrella Review Protocol

Recruitment Strategies for Lung Cancer Screening ar

A newly published protocol outlines the methodology for an umbrella review investigating recruitment strategies for lung cancer screening (LCS).

The study, supported by the EUCanScreen programme, aims to identify effective, evidence-based approaches to improve participation in LCS across Europe—particularly among underserved and high-risk populations.

Despite the proven effectiveness of low-dose CT (LDCT) screening in reducing lung cancer mortality, participation rates remain low.
This umbrella review, led by researchers from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and other EU partners, will synthesize evidence from existing systematic reviews and classify interventions at system, provider, and patient levels.

Key outcomes include:

  • -Identification of strategies that improve participation in LCS
  • -Focus on high-risk groups such as smokers, low-income populations, and minorities
  • -Classification of interventions by level and healthcare setting
  • -Recommendations to inform national and European screening policies
