The leadership of the International Cancer Screening Network in collaboration with the local organising committee is delighted to open the call for abstracts for the ICSN biennial conference to be held in Aarhus, Denmark, on June 18-20, 2025.

We welcome abstracts from across a range of themes relevant to the work of the cancer screening community; the themes for ICSN 2025 were selected based on feedback from the Turin 2023 meeting, and include cross-cutting aspects of implementation of current cancer screening programmes as well as new and emerging challenges.

The leadership is committed to bringing in a diversity of geographical and disciplinary perspectives while maintaining scientifically rigorous and relevant content to the ICSN participants. 

We look forward to engaging with you all – sharing research findings, deepening collaborations, and making new connections.

Shaping the Future of Cancer Screening

The logo for this year’s conference is inspired by one of Aarhus’ landmarks: The Infinite Bridge, beautifully situated in the Bay of Aarhus. The perspectives and opportunities within cancer screening are infinite, and like the water gracefully surrounding the bridge, they are in constant motion. New methods and technologies of today may be outdated or replaced tomorrow, and we – as researchers and stakeholders in this field – are the ones who must ensure that every ripple, every movement, every opportunity is explored, discussed, and examined – step by step. This is why research and development is essential, why it is important to meet, network, and share knowledge, to inspire and be inspired.

On Thursday, June 19, 2025, a Social Dinner will be held at Restaurant Varna, located close to The Infinite Bridge. Perhaps this will provide an opportunity for you, either alone or with others, to enjoy a walk or two around the bridge, immerse yourself in the movement of the water – and perhaps reflect on new possibilities, new solutions, new research potentials that may help shape the future of cancer screening.

The scientific and practical conference “Minimally Invasive Technologies in Urology” took place in Yaremche, Ivano-Frankivsk region. The event was organized by the Association of Urologists of Ukraine with the support of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Urology named after Academician O.F. Vozianov, the P.L. Shupyk National University of Health of Ukraine, and the Public Health Center. The event gathered over 700 participants, with nearly 450 joining online. Physicians and experts discussed key challenges and modern solutions in the field of urology.

Professor Oleksandr Shuliak, Vice President of the Association of Urologists of Ukraine, noted that modern urological practice faces numerous challenges, particularly the increasing incidence of prostate cancer.

“An important task is the implementation of the best European practices and international cooperation, which will contribute to improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment, as well as expanding patient access to modern medical technologies,” added Professor Shuliak.

During the conference, participants discussed the implementation of the European Joint Action on Cancer Screening (EUCanScreen) project, which was launched in June 2024 in Ukraine and the European Union countries. EUCanScreen is a European initiative aimed at ensuring the sustainable implementation of high-quality cancer screening and is being carried out under the EU4Health program.

Oleksandr Yurchenko, Deputy General Director of the Public Health Center, emphasized that the implementation of EUCanScreen in Ukraine helps reduce cancer incidence and mortality by expanding access to early detection and prevention services for oncological diseases.

Additionally, the conference addressed approaches to the treatment of kidney cancer and non-invasive bladder cancer. Experts shared the latest research and treatment developments in these areas and discussed ways to improve the quality of life for patients with metastatic bladder cancer.

Special attention was given to the issue of urinary incontinence treatment. Conference participants reviewed the European Association of Urology guidelines and discussed the most effective treatment approaches.

The event concluded with a discussion on modern approaches to bladder cancer treatment, where physicians presented clinical cases and deliberated on how new research could enhance the quality of medical care.

The conference marked another significant step in the development of urology, emphasizing the importance of an interdisciplinary approach, early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of urological diseases in Ukraine.

We are pleased to announce the upcoming EUCanScreen Consortium Meeting & Collaborative Sessions, which will be held from 12 to 14 May 2025, in the beautiful city of Turin, Italy. This event promises to be a great chance for the consortium to collaborate, share knowledge, and coordinate strategic objectives.

The event will be structured over three days, focusing on strategic discussions, governance, and collaborative sessions to enhance synergy across WP and Tasks.

13 May – General meeting & governance body sessions

14 May – Parallel sessions fostering WP & Task collaboration, ending at 15:30.

This meeting is a significant chance to ensure strategic alignment between work packages and joint actions, review ongoing initiatives and provide updates, and encourage closer collaboration within the consortium.
